Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor, Doha, Qatar

The Mesaimeer Bridge, which stands as Qatar's first cable-stayed bridge, was erected as a vital component of the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project. With a length of 1.2 km, the bridge accommodates four lanes in both directions. Pillarless for about 150 m, it features 120 supporting cables and 754 precast concrete pieces weighing more than 200 tonnes. Moreover, 20 columns and 16 piers were set up to reach the highest point of the bridge at 30 m.

To accentuate the imposing structure of this cable-stayed bridge during nighttime, a dedicated lighting system was required to highlight both its upper and lower sections through captivating, dynamic chromatic effects. A rainbow of sparkling lights had to transform the functional essence of the bridge into an appealing attraction at night. An alternation of colour-changing effects as well as white light scenes were required to achieve a wow effect.

TGriven provided the colour and the glitz to the Mesaimeer Bridge with the help of an array of custom linear bars specifically developed for this outstanding project. 4,322 units of a special version of PARADE L linear bars in a 4-independent-pixel configuration were installed on the lower structure of the bridge for the creation of appealing games of lighting evolving in synchrony with the traffic noise. 848 units of PARADE L RGBW in different lengths were used to deliver intense and brilliant tones of coloured light to the upper part of the bridge. The illumination of the pylons was entrusted to over 1,500 units of JASPER MK2 and 60 ONYX XQ, both in RGBW colour configuration. 460 units of NANOPARADE and 995 MICROPARADE, both in a custom 3000K white light version, were dedicated to the enhancement of one of the pedestrian bridges of the corridor.

The final effect achieved by this outstanding illumination system transforms the Mesaimeer Bridge into a stunning visual landmark in Doha. Its dynamic lighting design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the bridge but also underscores the advanced engineering and architectural prowess behind the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project. By seamlessly integrating complex DMX functionality with artistry, this corridor not only improves traffic flow and connectivity across the city but also stands as a testament to Qatar's commitment to infrastructural excellence and innovation.
