Located on the elegant Wycker Brugstraat in the center of Maastricht, Beaumont is a luxury boutique hotel that has been owned and operated by four successive generations of the eponymous family since 1912. Nowadays, it is one of the oldest privately owned, independently run hotels in the Netherlands.

After a large-scale refurbishment completed in 2004 by British architect David Chipperfield, Hotel Beaumont celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012, having grown into a modern hotel with 130 rooms, a high-end restaurant, various meeting and banqueting facilities, and around 80 employees. In the same year, it was awarded the prestigious title of Royal Court Supplier, an honour reserved for companies that are at least 100 years old and distinguished by quality, reliability, and continuity.

Its rooms and public areas feature a classic style enriched with traditional elements that blend seamlessly with the character of the building, creating an understated, enduring elegance with a strong focus on comfort, service, and hospitality.

Aiming to breathe new life into the building, the hotel commissioned new façade lighting to discreetly and elegantly highlight its distinctive architectural features. Contacted directly by the hotel management, our preferred partner in the Netherlands, LuxImprove, successfully integrated our luminaires into the façade, achieving the desired lighting scheme with minimal visible surface-mounted cabling.

"We are proud of this beautiful project for several reasons. First of all, because it is simply a wonderful reference—a magnificent building in a prominent location in the heart of Maastricht! It is an honour for us to contribute, even in a small way, to a family business that has been passed down from generation to generation for over 100 years,” asserts Jeroen Bulten, Lighting Designer at LuxImprove. "The challenge was to avoid unwanted ‘architectural pollution’ caused by flashy fixtures or visible cabling, with mounting options limited to walls and balconies. The first lighting design was an instant success. Although placing the lights in the middle of the window frames initially seemed awkward, after presenting the light calculation results—which showed minimal light intrusion into the hotel rooms—the client was both surprised and convinced.”
Twenty-nine Eklipse luminaires in 2700K warm white were installed on the window sills, elegantly outlining each window’s contour with refined luminous accents. Additionally, an array of Moon Marine RGBW and Half Moon Marine units in 2700K warm white, was mounted directly on the hotel’s façade to accentuate architectural features such as balustrades, balconies, and pediments with sophisticated touches of soft white light. Equipped with dedicated beehive filters, these luminaires achieved the desired illumination levels while minimizing glare for a visually comfortable effect.

The overall lighting design superbly enhances the building’s architectural details, illuminating the hotel’s façade with a subtle, emotional allure that makes it shine beautifully at night.
