Belgorod International Airport

Russia
Built in 1954, Belgorod International Airport was thoroughly renovated in 2013 in order to provide a modern design to its architecture, additional comfort to the end-user, as well as an energy saving and sustainable development to its infrastructure. This global restoration project was carried out with an eye to the modernization and expansion of the existing international air traffic offer of the whole region. A well blended mix of new architectural style along with an improved functionality revamped Belgorod airport as one of the most convenient and well-served flight facilities in central Russia.

The exterior renovation of the airport involved mainly its façade, refurbished with new glass windows, canopies, railings and fitted with a semi-circular bridge-like cover structure, stretching across the central part of the building to form a sort of arched doorway to the airport. Decorative and functional design elements along with innovative materials and an LED based lighting system completed the airport makeover transforming it into an attractive public area. The lighting scheme general idea was to emphasize the flowing volumes of the building, focusing on the brand new main entrance, while blending the building essence into the surrounding area, taking advantage of changing colors effects to add value to the whole structure.

Conceived by the lighting designers Viktor Pyatykh, as a project leader, and Anton Karpun of the company Heliocity LLC, the lighting design of the airport area features three different schemes according to different time lapses: day, night and feast days. The daily mode uses LED lighting fixtures located on the roof to light up the upper part of the entrance and RGBW floodlights mounted nearby the main arched doorway to create soft color accents on its forefront. A different color composition has been selected by the appointed lighting designers for each day of the week. During the night, dynamic and colored effects are disabled in order to save power, while the street lighting poles maintain a low, white light illumination level. On the occasion of feast days, a composition based on the official colors of Belgorod oblast has been chosen to highlight the exterior borders of the main entrance. Moreover, dynamic sequences of fireworks with flashes of light and flying sparks are projected during festivities onto the airport walls by using LED projectors. Fireworks represent one of the most important symbol of Belgorod, recalling the first military salute in honor of the city liberation in 1943.

Installed by Spetsmontge-Service LLC, 30 units of GRIVEN EMERALD RGBW, with different optics, along with 10 units of ZAPHIR W in cold white color temperature help providing bright color accents and an even white light distribution to the façade of the Russian airport, spreading a fascinating allure onto a functional facility.
Benefiting from state of the art electronic color mixing, EMERALD RGBW features 60 premium quality high RGBW power LEDs, coupled with a variety of high build and design optics groups for the utmost optical efficiency, balanced projection and photometric flexibility. The combination of RGBW LEDs offers an unprecedented astonishing white light output quality, as well as a wide variety of intermediate color hues for a broad range of application purposes. Such a remarkable performance is enhanced by the capacitive touchscreen display that allows for a direct access to all on-board functions.

Developed for refined architectural lighting, ZAPHIR W features 40 white power LEDs, that are capable of delivering a remarkable performance from an extremely compact unit. The comprehensive selection of optics groups available makes this projector suitable for a variety of lighting installations which require maximum photometric flexibility. Fitted with a capacitive touchscreen display, ZAPHIR W is available in grey and white finish and in both warm and cold white color temperature options. The full digital control system, obtainable from any one-channel remote DMX512 control desk, includes also stand alone functions implemented by master/slave mode for multiple units synchronization.
